Terms of use

A history of the first atomic bombs and the B-29s, written to show its evidence. These terms say how far to rely on it and who owns what.

What this is

tinian1945.com is a history of the first atomic bombs and the B-29 bombers that carried them, told as two journeys that meet on Tinian in 1945. It is run by Julian Mullins as a personal project. It carries no advertising and sells nothing.

It is not affiliated with the US National Park Service, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Museum of the United States Air Force, the Atomic Heritage Foundation, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, their peace memorial museums, or any museum, archive, government or veterans' body, and it speaks for none of them.

How accurate it is

Every date, time and figure is cited to a source listed at the foot of its page. Where reputable sources disagree, the page gives the range and says whose figure is whose. Each source, and the pages that cite it, is listed on the Sources page.

Mistakes happen anyway. If you find one, write to hello@tinian1945.com with the page and, if you can, a source. Corrections are listed on the Changes page, saying what was wrong and what it says now.

No warranty

This site is provided as it is, with no promise that it is accurate, complete, current or available. Nothing here is advice of any kind. Anybody relying on it does so at their own risk, and no liability is accepted for any loss or inconvenience arising from its use, from an error in it, or from it being unavailable.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, because the law does not allow that to be limited.

The sources and their licences

Each source remains the property of whoever published it and is subject to their own terms. Short quotations are used for criticism, review and history, with the source given.

Quotations from Hansard contain Parliamentary information licensed under the Open Parliament Licence v3.0. Other UK government material contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. United States government works are in the public domain.

Each photograph is credited where it appears, with its photographer or archive, its licence and a link to its source. Photographs licensed by others remain theirs, and anybody may use them on their licence's terms, ideally from their own source page.

The words on this site, its design, the diagrams and maps drawn for it, and the code behind it are © Julian Mullins 2026. All rights reserved. Quoting a sentence or two with a link back, or a teacher printing a page for a class, is fine. Anything more needs asking first, at hello@tinian1945.com.

The facts are nobody's property. What is claimed here is the writing, the design and the drawing, not the history underneath them.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
